Can i say travis barker

The only thing I wasn't excited about was the narrator. His performance wasn't bad but something about his voice and tone made me think of state farm commercial's. IDK maybe it's just me but I think it would have been easier to listen to if someone else had narrated it. Maybe it gets better, but I am at chapter 4 and honestly do not want to continue listening.

I presume it would have been better if read by the actual author. It just makes it feel lazy, somewhat entitled, and like paying full price for dollar store value. So far, the return on investment is too low for my taste. I don't know anything about the narrator, and he could quite possibly be really good at his performances otherwise. This book however, he missed the mark, a lot.

It was confusing transitions between characters, and he never embodied the true energy of the author. Maybe it's because the book SO FAR is most definitely lacking any intellectual writing and feels "middle-school-level-literature" at best.

Just feels like an impossible feat. I lost interest in this a few chapters in. The way it was written I would have thought a child wrote it. He started off on one subject and two sentences in he talked about something that had nothing to do with it and then went right back to the subject he started with.

I'm surprised it was accepted to be published with the way it was written. Definitely one of my favorite autobiography's by far! Started it and couldn't stop. What was one of the most memorable moments of Can I Say? The most memorable moment was the plane crash. It was hard to read. Which scene was your favorite? My favorite part of the book was Travis talking about growing up.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry? Laughed and cried. Didn't like the narrator. His voice would do weird changes at times, especially when he was reading for somebody else. I think he is too shy and not arrogant enough. I did think it was kind of funny that he would have others talk about how great he is then Travis boosting about himself.

Yes, it was not well written but Travis is not a scholar, he is an artist through and through. But the story is real , gritty and honest. I am glad I listened. But my only complaint was when Travis would let you know there was a quote from a friend or an ex wife, but failed to end the closed quote and would not know when the quotes ended and his story continues.

It was a little frustrating to constantly trying to figure out who was talking. I'm just here to help. And please, stop swearing like a 15 year old. Your an adult now - work on that vocabulary buddy. Or at least be a little creative. But, I look forward to more drumming from you.

You ROCK! And this was the most enjoyable passionate music biography i've come across and i've read 's. Now go listen to Matt Abts Gov't Mule's drummer - he'll show you how to get to the next level of your musical journey.

Sep 25, Alanna Why rated it liked it. Ever since I started listening to the podcast Blink, I have been consumed by the music of Blink and all of its related media. I thought I would read Travis Barker's memoir since they mention it on the podcast and wanted some light end-of-summer reading fun.

Sure, there's some fun goss about him hooking up Ever since I started listening to the podcast Blink, I have been consumed by the music of Blink and all of its related media. Sure, there's some fun goss about him hooking up with Paris Hilton and Kim K in the mid-aughts, but the majority of this book is a millionaire musician being depressed. Still, I gained a weird amount of respect for Travis Barker as a musician that I could not have anticipated.

Dec 17, Alyce rated it liked it. Finished this late last night. It started weak, but ended much stronger. Travis is an interesting guy, and I think this was a pretty honest account, with not too much glossing over certain things. There was a bit of repetition in places, and a bit too much emphasis on all the women he has attracted over the years, but an interesting read nonetheless.

Sep 18, Jodi rated it it was amazing. An awesome book from an amazing man. Nov 09, Emily Matview rated it liked it Shelves: nf. Whenever anything in my life has been bad, I knew I could go to my drums — for me, the drum kit has been better than a girlfriend.

Did you know that Travis has slept with hundreds of women? Did you know that Travis owns a fleet of Cadillacs? It helps keep the book from being too much of a humble brag. So how did Travis first become a drummer?

Inspired by Animal yes, that Animal , Barker was encouraged by his mother at age 4, who would send him to lessons and then learn along with him as they practiced together at night.

No matter what, play the drums. Keep doing it, no matter what anybody else says. Follow your dreams. Despite this, his love of music combined with raw talent made him an in-demand local drummer, juggling his time between various acts before ultimately ending up in the Aquabats.

Blink is a silly band dick jokes x infinity , but even then, Travis has always been the straight man. So what was it like for him in a band as wacky as the Aquabats? MC Bat Commander, aka Christian Jacobs, provides commentary here and is as talented behind the typewriter as he is fighting giant monsters on stage.

Mark and Tom both contribute writing in this book and while Travis is obviously closer to the former, he comes off as at peace with the latter. Pops taught me how to drive. Some parts still felt like an early draft. At that point, I panicked. I pulled the handle on the emergency exit and kicked the door open.

AM was right behind me. I jumped out — right into the jet wing, which was filled with jet fuel. My whole body got covered with fuel and caught fire, from my legs all the way to my back. I started running.

You can feel the anxiety dripping off of every word, the type of anxiety that is expected of a person with a lifelong fear of flying experiencing such a horrific event and the accompanying pictures are absolutely horrific. Dec 12, Susan rated it liked it Shelves: books-read. The theme of this book seems to be something about making one bad decision after another, payback for prior bad acts, and magical success. I don't really care about his reality show or much of anything else that happened during the Shanna period of his life - yawn!

What I wanted to know wasn't in the book. I want to know how Travis Barker really got things together for his various successful ventures in music and business. I feel like this book listed this type of stuff the fascinating stuff, t The theme of this book seems to be something about making one bad decision after another, payback for prior bad acts, and magical success. I feel like this book listed this type of stuff the fascinating stuff, to me in a digest version whereas there were way too many exhaustive lists about exactly how Travis Barker got high, which interests me not at all.

He scratched the surface, and there's way more there that he could have said. Travis Barker did not get where he is through magical success, and I wish he had elaborated more on his hard work, inspiration, and perseverance.

Also, the Dag Nasty fan in me really hopes he does them a good turn for stealing the name of their song for the title of his book.

Oct 20, Fredrik rated it really liked it. Jan 14, Jen Young rated it it was amazing Shelves: memoirs-autobios. I was surprised at how engaging this book was! I enjoyed reading it quite a lot. It's very story-teller-y and I just kept hoping that he turns himself in to a more upstanding dude by the end. I liked the focus on fathering. Raw, Real, Travis Barker Have been a fan for 15 years or more but after reading this book I have a whole new love and respect for Travis Barker and all that he's about.

Dec 09, Brendan Egan rated it it was amazing. Anything that can get me to put down Tiger Beat for five seconds and halt my seemingly never-ending pining for the glory days of TRL is worth five stars in my book. Jun 18, Melanie Yaris rated it did not like it. Dec 20, Mateo rated it it was amazing. Travis shows himself to the world and taught a lot of lessons for the young people who follow him.

Jun 03, Elena rated it really liked it. He is very talented and I did enjoy listening to his book. I love that he can play any genre and how he emphasizes that he still practices. Sep 05, Tyler Allen rated it it was amazing. This book is a ride. Excellent memoir. Somehow built even more respect for Travis Barker even though I already considered him a mind-blowing musician. I was always excited to pick this up, so I finished it quickly.

Feb 06, Amar Kasapovic rated it it was amazing. I grew up listening to punk rock and Blink Hell of a dude, great human, drummer and father. Highly recommend the book. Nov 22, Anthem Book Review rated it really liked it.

I, like many others, have been a Travis Barker fan since his days in Blink I followed his career from his brief stint on reality television, to his many musical endeavors as a drummer. Barker has an aura about himself that is just intriguing. He is unique, a seemingly quiet soul that has finally opened up to the world in his new book. This I, like many others, have been a Travis Barker fan since his days in Blink This is not a typical musician autobiography.

This is an honest look into one of the greatest drummers of our lifetime, a creative genius and him slowly, revealing his soul, layer by layer. He is the Jimmy Hendrix of our times. A true drumming god seated on his famous swivel throne. And yet he is also so much more than that. Barker can be seen as a roughneck tattooed punk-rock man on the exterior but Can I Say reveals a fragile all too human-core that will leave the reader with tenderness in their heart for him.

His life story is beautiful and yet, so very tragic, what this man endured time in time again is brutal to say the least. The amount of physical pain and loss he has suffered in life is only soothed by the unconditional love he finds in his children. So many parts were difficult to read, I just wanted to hug him. The lack of a lasting female role-model really shapes Barkers future relationships with women.

His brutal honesty in what a woman would do just to be with him is shocking but believable, groupies are everywhere. I mean people that are not famous, to his wife, his bandmates and his family. He would truly greet the busboy as he would the celebrity. I guarantee one will finish this book with a deeper appreciation for him and his love of music and commitment to his family. It is gorgeous to read. I went into this book with a crush on him, as I had my entire life, and I closed it with the love I would have for a family member, that familial desire to see him succeed and to find peace and maybe to curb his hunger with a homemade vegan burrito.

I highly recommend this book. Can I Say, it is a worthy read, a top-shelf-keeper-, yes, I can say! Jan 30, Jessica White rated it it was amazing. This review and more can be found at A Reader's Diary! Travis Barker is one of the best drummers in the world. But few people know his story. Travis Barker wrote can I say as a tell all for all of the things he's done. He worked his way up from the bottom.

He grew up skating and drumming along to his idols This review and more can be found at A Reader's Diary! He grew up skating and drumming along to his idols. He grew up knowing he wanted to be someone. His mom wanted him to be someone. He took drugs, he smoked a lot, he made poor choices, but in the end he came out on top. He's humble, he's kind, he cherishes his two kids.

He survived a plane crash that killed two of his friends. He's lost close friends and family. He's survived more than the average person should ever have to endure. He started Famous Stars and Straps and only hires people he knows personally. He collects classic cars with this pal Pops.

He raises his children better than any celebrity I've seen. Travis has the utmost respect and puts his all into every single thing he does. Can I Say is one of the best autobiographies I have read in a very long time. If you're a die hard Blink fan, this is the book for you. If you love Travis Barker and everything he does, read this book. I highly recommend! Feb 12, The Rudie Librarian Brian rated it it was amazing. As someone who grew up loving the music of Blink , Green Day, MxPx, and Offspring, this is a phenomenal account of one of the major players in that scene.

It is also an amazing tale of excess, fall, and redemption. I love who Travis was, but even more, I love who he became. I will read this again. Jul 10, Destiny Frith rated it really liked it. I finished this book in three reading sessions. I was completely captivated by Travis' writing, his honesty and all of the little details he shared about his life.

He opens up about the plane crash he was in, love, loss, depression and addiction. I recommend this to anyone going through a rough time. It will truly inspire you. I know that Travis is regarded in the music industry as an incredibly talented drummer but I didn't realize to what extent. It seems that everyone wants him to join their I finished this book in three reading sessions. It seems that everyone wants him to join their band or be featured in their songs.

An aspect of this book that I really enjoyed is that he has many people from his life past and present write their own reflections and he inserts them all throughout the book so we get their insight. Very neat. What I love most about this book is that I felt like I really got a sense of who Travis is and what is most important to him, which is family.

There's no denying that his kids are his world. It's also nice to realize that he is a genuine and down to earth guy who has never really let fame or money go to his head or change his character.

I would happily read another book by Travis. Sep 29, Stay Fetters rated it it was amazing. Pure adrenaline ride from cover to cover. Talk about inspirational too.

I've been obsessed with Blink for as long as I can remember. They got me through some tough times and even high school. Was that hard to revisit to put down into words? Yeah, I mean definitely the plane crash and the passing of my mom. How does that make you feel? Or how can you describe that? Then there were times Gavin would laugh like a hyena and we'd just crack up.

So it was therapeutic for you in a way? Oh for sure. I wanted my friends to be interviewed 'cause I wanted people to know that my book was real and give their opinions even if they were humiliating on behalf of me.

So I just wanted to do everything I could to make mine as real as possible. Was it tough getting them to write for you? Melissa, my first wife, is still my great friend. Everyone from people I grew up with when I was like 7 are interviewed in the book to people like Skinhead Rob.

After having children, has your outlook on dating changed? Especially after having a daughter? I mean, even from the time my son was born my life changed. It was just crazy, and then it changed.

I taught my son from a young age to treat girls correctly. So much has changed. Someone said it in a past interview, "Maybe it had something to do with your mom passing away at a young age. I have no clue, or like female issues. Having a pregnancy scare at 13 is kind of intense.
