Why tails
It's almost like it's not there at all. Why is this? Well, some people think the answer lies in an old story told by scouts around the campfire. What do you think? Could there be any truth to this story? Why or why not? So are you feeling a little bit jealous right now?
If you are, it's only natural. After all this talk of tails and you not having one…well…that could make anyone a bit envious. What if you were granted one wish: you can have a tail. It can be any kind of tail you want.
You get to decide what it looks like and how long it is. What would you choose? Maybe a long, fluffy tail like a cat's? Or how about a powerful wagger like you might find on a Golden Retriever? Perhaps an alligator's tail is more your style? What kind of tail would you want to wag and why? Let us know! Post a comment below or leave us a comment on Facebook. Dec 15, Ellie Jelly May 28, If I had to choose a tail, I would pick a red foxes' tail. I think their tails are pretty and would help me keep warm if I was cold. I'm not sure, but for now if you want a tail, you can only hope and dream. I think it would be awesome if humans had wings too. May 30, Kevin Mar 15, We don't have tails coz we never evolved from monkey's. True fact. Think about it carefully, Apes,Monkey's spend more time with humans now than they ever did people even have them as pets. There in zoo's and they see humans all the time, But yet not one ape or monkey can talk yet or are walking about on 2 legs.
Plus what animal do you know that would make there life harder by trying to do something that nature didnt intend them on doing, Like walk upright. There are many animal today that can easily stand on there 2 back legs and even walk, But these animal's do it mainly to reach thing's or give themself's a better view point for what there trying to see.
But not one of these animal's take it into there head's that it a good idea to stay this way and just walk around on there back legs for the rest of there life's. So this leads me to the last point and that would be, Who were the apes trying to mimic by walking upright since there we're no human about at that time where did they get the idea from seen as every other animal round them would of been on all 4's. Mar 16, Aug 23, That would be an interesting sight, timothy!

I think I cried like times already. Feb 12, Hi, Wonder Friend! We are sorry to hear your sad! Ryan Nov 30, I believe as long as the tail is sized proportionally, humans' balance could benefit from having a tail.
As for it getting in the way, my yellow lab sits or lays on her tail fairly often and it didn't seem to bother her. Assuming the tail is prehensile, I think it would be very useful for all kinds of things, from carrying things to parkour. And that is not even considering aesthetics and fashion. One is so they can climb trees and protect their selves. We also learned ,that what kind of tails animals have. We still wonder why do pigs have tails.

In other words, these animals are naturally upright, unlike old and new world monkeys that use all fours. Both are suited to their survival in their particular environments.
New world monkeys are a separate group far removed from old world monkeys, and not a part of the monkey ape lineage. So the difference between monkeys and apes, tail and no tail, is a matter of adaptation to a particular environment.
